‘University and College Educators’ Conference on ’Values and Spirituality for Empowering the Self’ Concluded

Mount Abu : The Valedictory Session of the ‘University and College Educators’ Conference on Values and Spirituality for Empowering the Self’ was held on the evening of May 20, 2018 in the Harmony Hall of the Gyan Sarovar campus of the Brahma Kumaris.
BK Hardeep, Executive Member of Education Wing, Ludhiana welcomed the guests and speakers of this session.
Rajyogini BK Shashi (Indore) highlighting the theme of the session ‘Ethics and Spiritual Wisdom in Education’ emphasized that while each one of us has qualities and capabilities, it is the teacher who is the beacon light of his time and gives direction to the values and skills of every learner. It is unjust to criticize a time or era for its vices and weaknesses. In fact the power is on both sides of the fence – goodness and evil. It all depends on which side one chooses to stand.
Dr. N.M.Veeraiyan, Chancellor, Saveetha Amraravati University, Vijaywada expressed his opinion that all education is meant to serve the human world with a sense of dedication and not for any selfish motives. Anything, howsoever useful and precious loses its significance the moment it is based on some vested motive.
Prof. B.L.Sah, Director, UGC – HRDC, Kumaun University, Nainital expressed the view that ethics and spirituality are more of practice and conduct than just theoretical terms for some drawing-room discussion. He said that realizing ‘Who I am and why I am, where I am’ would in itself be stepping on spiritual grounds and being spiritual. He also highlighted some of the dilemmas that one faces in the practical life. For example he raised the question ‘whose flute it is – the one who made it or the one who plays upon it or the one who can buy it?’ Things may appear to be confusing and complex but at the bottom they are simple.
Rajyogi BK Mruthyunjaya, Chair-person Education Wing, RE&RF and Executive Secretary of the Brahma Kumaris welcomed the elite speakers and thanked the audience for their interest and cooperation in conducting the conference in such an efficient and effective manner. He lamented the present day society and administrative system for its commercialization and rather criminalization of human life. It is time people understood the seriousness of the vices and their impact and followed the ideals of the Brahma Kumaris for the moralization and divinization of human existence. Ironically we all claim that ‘My heart is full’, but the brain appears to be empty. We all wish to change the world but do not have a rational approach. We need to realize that social, global and universal transformation is possible only when we can initiate self-transformation.
The present day unhealthy rivalry and competition is only vitiating the hearts and minds of the people. We seem to have associated the concept of educational progress with material and luxurious appearance. Today the educational institutions that have ultra-modern facilities and infrastructure are considered superior. He cautioned the elite gathering that unless we devote our efforts to the improvement of the quality of education and instill values and virtues in our learners, all infrastructure and educational gadgets would be futile.
Prof. BK Ved Guliani, Executive Member, Education Wing, Hisar presented the Report of the 4-Day Conference. He elaborated that the whole scheme of the conference had been structured in different sessions, Panel Discussion and lecture sessions with a definite plan logically conceived and systematically and effectively executed. He also presented the Resolution on behalf of all the participants that they will inculcate the ideas and values discussed during this conference and would surely empower themselves with divine blessings.
Dr. BK Yudhishthir, Executive Member, Education Wing, Shantivan presented the vote of thanks with the hope that all the participants of the conference would inculcate the qualities and values learnt during these 4 days at the Gyan Sarovar.
BK Sister Hemna, Executive Member, Education Wing Ahmedabad coordinated the stage in a very efficient manner with her timely and meaningful remarks as also the time management.
