Delhi: The Bhagvad Gita was a spiritual text that had won universal acceptance, said Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Union Minister of State for Culture, and Minister of State, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, on Sunday. He was speaking at the closing session of the day-long programme organised by the Brahma Kumaris at Talkatora Stadium here on the theme “Truth As Revealed by the God of Gita”.
The Minister said the essence of the Gita is that we understand our own divinity and recognise the light within. “If we look at the Gita in a limited sense, only as what was recited during the war of Mahabharata between Pandavas and Kauravas, we are likely to miss its message in totality.”
He said we must recognise the spiritual power within, which is the source of peace and bliss, and spread these values around the world through the medium of Rajyoga. He called upon everyone to become givers and contribute to the society by adding smiles and reducing pain in people’s lives.
Earlier, in the beginning of his address, the Minister spoke of his connection with the Brahma Kumaris. He said the Brahma Kumaris was a family that had supported him towards value-based transformation, and had provided a sense of direction, light and inspiration in his field of work. He also congratulated the organisation for becoming an international spiritual movement through a journey of several decades.
Dr. Pushpa Pandey, eminent Gita scholar from Jabalpur, said that the Bhagvad Gita was written much later than when the knowledge was actually recited. Also, several chapters had been added by various authors as time passed. As a result, the original truth had been lost to misunderstandings and multiple interpretations.
Dispelling myths about the knowledge, she said that a human being always takes re-birth as a human, and there is no truth to transmigration of souls to other species. The modern psychological techniques, such as past life regression, had proved this. Contradicting omnipresence of God, she said the concept was more of an emotional understanding of the subject. She also clarified that the soul and Supreme Soul were two separate entities, and one could not become the other as energy could neither be created nor destroyed.
Former Acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice V. Eswaraiah, said: “The present time, when truth is conspicuous by its absence in every sphere of life, is the time of God’s descent on earth.”
BK Prem from Gulbarga said that in the Gita, Arjuna is never asked to kill his kin, rather he is told to conquer the five vices of lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego. So the war depicted in the Gita is symbolic of a soul’s victory over ego and other evils born out of body consciousness.
By misunderstanding symbolic statements as actual happenings, a lot of confusion had surrounded the original knowledge of the spiritual text. “It is time to explore the essential tenets of the Gita, and to understand them in the right perspective,” he said.
The session closed with a meditation experience and a colourful skit.
Earlier during the day, the Brahma Kumaris declared 2018 as The Year of Enlightenment. Inaugurating the programme, Justice L. Nageswara Rao, Supreme Court of India, said that the word enlightenment was first used to refer to the movement in Europe that stood for personal liberty, right to free expression, and reasoning. It is these very ideals that form the basis of modern India as well.
He said, “However rich or humble a human being may be, he is searching for inner peace, and meditation is the answer to this.” He said that the mind is like a computer and can be managed to stay balanced both in happiness and sorrow through self-awareness. This is also a form of enlightenment.

यह बात भारत के संस्कृति राज्यमंत्री (स्वतंत्र प्रभार) पर्यावरण, वन एवं जलवायु परिवर्तन राज्यमंत्री डाॅ0 महेश शर्मा ने कल शाम स्थानीय तालकटोरा स्टेडियम में प्रजापिता ब्रह्माकुमारी ईश्वरीय विश्व विद्यालय की ज्ञानोदय वर्ष 2018 की राष्ट्रीय शुभारंभ कार्यक्रम के अंतिम सत्र को मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में सम्बोधित करते हुए कहा।
डाॅ0शर्मा ने कहा कि हम अनाज, फलों की नई फसल, नई नस्ल, पशुओं की भी नई नस्ल तैयार करते रहते हैं, परन्तु गिरते चरित्र वाले मानव की नस्ल को सुधारने का कार्य ब्रह्माकुमारी संस्था बखूबी कर रही है।
उन्होंने आगे कहा एक डॉक्टर होने के नाते वे महसूस करते हैं की मरीजों के दर्द मिटाना और हर्ष लौटाना, यह दो मुख्य जिम्मेबारी डॉक्टरों के है, जो आध्यात्मिक तल पर ब्रह्मा कुमारी संस्था समग्र मानवता केलिए कर रही है।
जबलपुर से पधारी गीता विशेषज्ञ डाॅ0पुष्पा पाण्डेय ने बताया कि हम गीता को सर्व शास्त्र शिरोमणि मानते है और सदियों से पढ़ते आ रहे है परन्तु गिरावट में ही जा रहे है,यानी गीता के सत्य ज्ञान से दूर है। अब वहीं गीता ज्ञान और राजयोग की शिक्षा परमात्मा आकर स्वयं दे रहे है, जिसे जीवन में लाने से हम सुख और शान्ति सम्पन्न बन जायेगें।
कर्नाटक से पधारी गीता विशेषज्ञ ब्र0 कु0 वीना ने भागवत गीता में भारत के प्राचीन राजयोग के बारे में बताते हुए कहा कि योग दिखाने के लिए नहीं बल्कि स्वदर्शन के लिए है। गीता यु़द्ध शास्त्र नहीं अपितु गीता योग शास्त्र है जिसके प्रत्येक अध्याय में योग सिखाया गया है।
उन्होंने कहा गीता में वर्णित योग द्वारा कर्म में कुशलता, मन और बुद्धि में एकाग्रता, स्स्थिरता, दृढ़ता और सन्तुलनता प्राप्त होती है, आत्मा ज्योति जगती है जिससे मनुस्य चिंता मुक्त और मोह मुक्त हो जाता है।
आन्ध्र प्रदेश उच्च न्यायालय के भूतपूर्व मुख्य न्यायाधीश जस्टिस वी ईश्वरीया ने बताया कि गीता अनुसार भगवान के आने का यही समय है जब सब कुछ तमोप्रधान हो गया है और चारों तरफ भ्रष्टाचार, पापाचार, दुराचार हो रहा है। भगवान द्वारा दिया जा रहा गीता ज्ञान एवं राजयोग शिक्षा ब्रह्माकुमारी संस्था द्वारा जन-जन को दी जा रही है।
कर्नाटक, गुलबर्गा जोन में ब्रह्माकुमारी सेवाकेन्द्रों के निदेशक ब्र0कु0प्रेम ने बताया कि गीता में वर्णित युद्ध विकार और बुराइओं के विरुद्ध अहिंसक लड़ाई है जिसको परमात्म शक्ति से जीता जाता है और जिससे सुख शांति और समृद्धि की साम्राज्य मानव जीवन और समाज में पुनः स्थापित होती है।
इससे पूर्व, प्रातः कालीन सत्र में सुप्रीम कोर्ट के न्यायधीश एल.नागेश्वर राव ने ’’ज्ञानोदय वर्ष 2018’’ परियोजना का राष्ट्रीय शुभारम्भ विधिवत रूप से किया था।
