‘Report the truth, don’t twist it, for peace, power and protection’- Dadi Janki
‘Meditation & Self Introspection-Key to Effectiveness in Media Profession’-Mr N K Singh

Mount Abu, June 3: A four-day National Media Conference on ‘Values & Meditation for Inner Empowerment of Media Professionals’organised by the Media Wing of Brahma Kumaris’ Rajyoga Education & Research Foundation began today at its Gyan Sarovar Academy for a Better World here today.

102 years old, Rajyogini Dadi Jankithe Chief of the Brahma Kumaris in a video message, chanting Om Shanti thrice  said, “while the first refers to “inner self as originally a peaceful soul”, the second refers to “Supreme Soul as Ocean of Peace”, and the third refers to “always doing duty peacefully”.

She urged the media persons to perform their duties without worries, fear or favour in loving intellectual companionship of God who is the eternal source of inner peace and power. She suggested the media professionals to report news truthfully in a detached manner like a witness without twisting facts in order to experience, peace and protection in professional life.

She also stressed on the need for inculcating values like love, truth compassion, forgiveness, and for promoting these values among the public through mass media as well as through their own life examples.

“Whenever these values will be demonstrated in your practical life, you will reap happy fruits of your positive karma as a result. And when yourkarma will be goodyou will receive  love & protection from God who is synonym of good karma”, she stressed.

Mr. N.K. SinghSenior TV Journalist and General Secretary, Broadcast Editors’ Association, Delhi, cited various problems facing the country, and said, “the media persons, amidst changes in economy and market forces have to be sensitive and selective about news and their publication.”

“The irony is that media often reports about a film stars, cricketers as icons and not the son of vegetable vendor who tops in IAS. Our growth rate is 7.3%, but United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Report states that India is one of the unhappy countries. The media persons do not have the knowledge and understanding of why this is so. The media persons have to raise themselves, introspect and look into their heart for positive and developmental reporting”, he said.

“If we don’t use our discerning mind to separate and select right from wrong and truth from falsity, then we become our and society’s worst enemy. If we merely cater to bestial tastes & flimsy interests of the people for TRP and profit, then we can’t be said to have acted in the best interest and wellbeing of public and society.”

Appreciating the social contributions of the Brahma Kumaris organisation, he said that by practicing and promoting human values and spirituality among the masses, the organisation is contributing towards gross national happiness index.” He said that this is real ‘inner empowerment’ which is not only needed for media professionals but also for people in other professions, sections and segments of society. He urged media persons to learn meditation and inculcate values and spirituality for peace, balance and progress in their personal and professional life.

Mr. Dinkar Raikar, Group Editor, Lokmat group, Mumbai, said, “I used to start and end my day with positive note. The media persons should introspect and think of positivity and drive out all sorts of negativities.”

He said that, “I was also a crime reporter and have covered the crime reports, but I was never attacked by any criminals because I had always reported facts and truths without any twisting of the facts and truths. Every day, I used to publish two positive stories in our papers, which is in our hands. To the question of “Who am I?” my answer is: I am somebody who can contribute something positive to the society, the nation and to the welfare of the people.”, he emphasized.

Mr. Anil Rai, Managing Editor, News World India, Noida, said, “Since the inception of social media, priority is given to negative news. In films and T.V. also immorality, violence and negativities are often displayed. Spiritual news and articles have been relegated to the background, as they appear in fourth or fifth page or in the supplementary. But, it does not mean that all news is negative; the editorials are still positive.”

The problem of media persons is that whenever they go the root of depth of the news, they forget their own selves; they neglect the family, and thereby allow the news to overwhelm them in a negative manner. Practice of spiritual wisdom and mediation is the way to make them tension-free and to make their media contents positive and salutary.”

Dr. K. Ramchandra Murty, Editorial Director, Sakshi Media Group, Hyderabad, expressed his anguish over the problems of farmers and media persons. Citing the issues of Naxalites’ problem and of the farmers’ suicide, he said that we have failed in tackling the Naxalites’ problem, and, since 1998, more than 5 lakhs farmers have committed suicide for no fault of their own, because though their yield was good, yet they got less price.

Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Nag, Member, Press Council of India said that the market forces, pressures and control of the government upon media have become unprecedented. As a result of which there is no ethical priority in media now, and we are unable to make truthful and positive reporting. There is also the pressure from the management of media houses for hefty profit. The media houses are going to control 42% of population, and try to control reporting and dole out news as per their own volition.

“I think, practice of yoga and Rajyoga meditation will somehow give us soul-power, allow us a chance to self-introspect, and help us in writing and reporting news”, he said. While some are busy in marketing yoga, Brahma Kumaris organization is popularizing values, spirituality and rajyoga meditation among people free of cost, he stressed.

Rajyogi B.K. Nirwair, General Secretary, the Brahma Kumaris in his video message, said “Today, everybody feels stressful. That is why realization of peace has becomes difficult. I hope that during the conference, the media persons will recognize their real self, the Supreme Self and connect with Him through Rajyoga meditation, and thereby restor the real peace and happiness in self and society.”

Rajyogini Dadi Ratan Mohini, Joint Chief of the Brahma Kumaris, said, “The media persons have sharp intellect, and by using your pen and camera in spiritual and value based way, they can promote peace, harmony, and universal brotherhood under the spiritual fatherhood of one incorporeal Supreme Soul. She urged the participants to know their real self and meditate on God to enhance their soft skill and positive qualities for the betterment of people and the society.

Prof. Kamal Dixit, National Convenor, Media Initiative for Values, Bhopal, in his keynote address, said, “Inner empowerment” means the empowerment of the inner self, not of the physical body. The inner empowerment of the media professionals refers to the empowerment of the ‘inner invisible souls’ of the media professionals. Now, it is the call of time for the media professionals to recognize the soul, your true and real spiritual identity for self-transformation leads to world-transformation.

Rajyogi B.K. Karuna, Chairperson, Media Wing said, “In the month of June, people are conscious of the Yoga of Physical Exercises, which renders physical health, whereas the Rajyoga of Brahma Kumaris renders both physical and mental as well as spiritual health. He said that values are developed through raj-yoga meditation which can bring the inner empowerment for personal and professional effectiveness of media professionals.

While B.K. Sheilu, Senior Faculty, the Brahma Kumaris, conducted mass meditation through her powerful meditation commentary, B.K. Atam Prakash, Vice Chairperson Media Wing, offered vote of thanks.
