Denise Scotto, Esq., Chair of the International Day of Yoga Committee at the United Nations, warmly welcomed everyone and briefly shared the history around Human Rights Day which was the theme for this year’s Peace Day observance.
Eleanor Roosevelt’s Legacy was beautifully captured through poetry and song by Rev. Heather Shay and Anwar, respectively. Rev. Dionne Boissiere, Chaplain of the Tillman Chapel, shared a motivating message for peace which was followed by the awesome singing of Paul Luftenegger, songwriter from Canada. Paul also sang John Lennon’s Imagine to a video clip illustrating the Peace Tree Project which involves children expressing what peace means to them. The event closed with a guided meditation by Rev. Qalvy Grainvolt of The Shinnoy Center, which took everyone into that special place within from where peace flows.
The new logo for the International Day of Yoga Committee at the UN was launched during the event, in which BK Sabita Geer, Brahma Kumaris Representative to the United Nations, took part.
The afternoon continued with more Peace events organized by various NGOs with people of all various backgrounds – ethnic, cultural, religious, social, and political – together to share and experience peace. Peace is our common goal as it is our common nature!
